Enter through the flower shop,

‘I’m looking for the fourth floor’

Glass, flowers and light reflections all around,
‘I’m looking for the fourth floor’

Elevated in a pretty glass box only to the second ground,
‘I’m still looking for the fourth floor’

Walk this way lady you are on the right track,
if you are looking for the fourth floor

Follow the path around to the magazine rack,
and there, you will be lifted to the fourth floor…

‘Lifted’ we certainly were.

This was my third time seeing Mozez live and by far the best experience. I did not think it was possible for his already superior vocal talent to improve. However somehow he has managed to widen still his capacity. For instance, while listening live to the latest single release,’ Wings’ from his new album “The Absolute” I was struck by elements of Marvin Gaye and although I had never noticed before, at that moment it was so obvious. Two unique artists each with a regal angelic elegance within their delivery. What a fascinating discovery to later find a Marvin cover was included on the new album.

Mozez of course is know best as being the front man of Zero 7 a band that have Trip Hopped their ambient style through the last decade collecting all manor of accolades in the process, even remixing among others, power houses such as NERD, all solid proof of their indelible impact on the music scene. This leads nicely on to Sophie Barker also ex-Zero 7 as well as a collaborator of Grooverider and Groove Amada respectively. Sophie on the night with her band not only supported but also complimented Mozez with an engaging and hypnotic performance of tracks taken from her latest album “Seagulls”.

The Ivy Club, which spans three floors above their famous restaurant, was the perfect setting for such an intimate gig. The sound quality was excellent and there was a feeling of progressive connection between Mozez, his band and the audience. The crowd were reminisced by Zero 7 tracks including, Simple things and This World.

However, this night was about the New, the new album to be precise. The Absolute is a collection of music to stimulate the senses. From the opening bars of the reality check ‘Broken Toy’ through to the hauntingly penetrating ‘This Man Says’ and the encouragingly positive title track ‘The Absolute’, this is the reminder, we all need every now and again; that everything in life is attainable.

The album is about renewal, growth and change, whilst all the while retaining your goodness and charm.

Listen deeply; Mozez has most definitely retained his.
