Charity Music Events - Plug and Play Festival and Music For Life
The UK's first charity event of its kind, inspired by Los Angeles’ legendary ‘Thanksgivends’—an annual celebration where LA underground:- international artists, top DJs, producers, promoters, and industry volunteers unite for a charitable causes. The event is something that every year LA artists looked forward to, this charitable and giving attitude gave the event an atmosphere like no other experienced before. It springs from a drive and spirit towards linking creative passions with 'give back' and having a place where the industry can get together, unite and collaborate once a year.
Unifunk wanted London to experience this event full of the essence of giving, amazing music; bringing London’s underground, emerging and established music scene together. Merging creative passion with philanthropy to foster unity and collaboration within the music scene.
The Root Down
One the most respected Los Angeles has known; the Root Down stands as a temple to hip-hop’s raw essence. It’s a cultural excavation, unearthing the golden era foundations of the genre and proving, night after night, that true hip-hop evolves on its own terms.
Showcasing turntablism as High Art: Scratching, blending, and beat-making transformed into a spiritual experience. No gimmicks, just mastery with seamless Sets so fluid they feel like one endless groove, yet so dynamic they keep the dancefloor moving. The place where the Who’s-Who of west coast roots hip hop hone their craft and showcase their new material: The kind of crowd where OGs nod approval and newcomers get schooled.
Co-founder Carlos 'Loslito' put it best: "We didn’t just throw parties, we rewired how L.A. experiences hip-hop." Root Down became the bridge between past and future, where crate-diggers and casual fans alike discovered the depth, history, and fire of the culture..."Dedicated to showcasing the roots of hip-hop in a way that was previously unknown,...We bridged the gap of great turntablism and seamless mixes while keeping the dance floor up."
BEATS, RHYMES, & LIFE
Footage from the Beats, Rhymes and Life official movie release party at Exchange LA on July 7, 2011 in Downtown Los Angeles Produced by Walk Talkin'. Hosted by Michael Rapaport with performances from Phife and VJ sets by Peanut Butter Wolf and Prince Paul as well as DJ sets from Madlib and KCRW's Garth Trinidad.
Smif n Wessun
Unifunk activated a network for this show. London’s underground hip-hop scene erupted when we rallied the city’s most respected promoters for a last-minute 20th anniversary celebration of Smif-N-Wessun’s iconic Dah Shinin’ and a raw, emotional tribute to the late, great Sean Price. Turning a logistical nightmare over 10 days into a masterclass in underground synergy.
This wasn’t just a promotion, it was a cultural emergency response. No corporate sponsors, no sterile vibes. Just Bucktown authenticity in a POW London venue.
Tek & Steele's tribute hit like a gut punch as they ripped through the classics. If you know, you know, this gig was cultural history.
