Quincy Jones Jr was out in the music world, playing and attending Jazz clubs when he was a boy, watching and learning from the best live jazz players. His first band was formed at 14 years old with Ray Charles who was a life inspiration for him and best friend.
He benefitted from exceptional mentorship and informal music education through the experience of playing the 40s Jazz clubs. A life experience music education, unteachable in the schooling system which helped to gain a scholarship to hone his trumpeting talent.
The reliance on his instinct likely developed in his early years, helped him carry a resonance between art/life experience throughout his 91 years forging a connection to people through art.
The ability to lead towards a creative vision and the volume of great works of art that he leaves behind are other worldly.
The high level of collaborators he chose that came together repeatedly, and sometimes just on faith alone.
As any good orchestrator he knew, how to plan, when to bring people in, knowing what's needed when, yet when life tragedy strikes he knew how to pivot.
The innovation, the groundbreaking, the pioneering time and time again. The uplift provided to so many and good business ethics, integrity and deal-making with an art/people-first approach.
He was a first and succeeded because he built great work and great friends through his innate understanding of people; The human experience, good will and recognising hard working talent in its infancy and seeing how he can help.
He was our greatest producer for art projects of resonance.
His life's work cannot be equalled because the time in which he lived has passed.
He set the trail through the blocks, and blazed the paths we follow.
Today there is gratitude a plenty for Quincy Jones from all over the world, for giving generations a music history of excellence and creating an admirable blueprint.
Ending this tribute with a great producers motto handed down from his father:-.
"Once a task is just begun, never leave until it's done. Be the labor great or small, do it well or not at all." Quincy Jones Sr.
